Homes and Remodeling

Since 1969 I have owned a number of homes, either alone of with a partner.

The first was a ¡¡VERY!! small house with two tiny bedrooms a small, but comfortable, living room, and a kitchen and bath which were just large enough to be functional.  I implemented a number of upgrades to this basic house including gas-fired hot water heat with baseboard radiators, a fairly nice kitchen remodel.  Though I lived in this house for only a year and a half, I kept it as a rental until 1984, my original cost of $9,000 having grown to about $54,000.  Real estate been berry, berry good to me.

The next house, I  bought with Camille (second wife) in the upper middle-class neighborhood of Washington Park in Denver.  Once again, copious upgrades were implemented, including expansion into a very high roofed attic, adding about 500 square feet to the floor plan.  Camille kept this house as part of our divorce settlement.

When Camille and I split up in 1994, I bought a 900 square foot condominium in lower downtown Denver for $99,000.  Once again, major upgrades were performed, and I sold it in 2001 for $269,000, and bought a townhome in Northwest Denver at the site of the historical Elitch Gardens Botanical Gardens and Amusement Park.  Again, after really major upgrades, I sold this house in May of 2023 for $750,000.

I moved to San Miguel de Allende in the state of Guanajuato in August of 2021, and bought my house here for $342,000, and kept the Denver home as a rental until I sold it two years later (remind me to never be a landlord again).  So far, I have probably put $50,000 in improvements (solar power, air conditioning, converting the rooftop terrace into a completely self-contained independent living quarters (complete with kitchenette, and full bath facilities) for guests, as well as an elevator.
